Standard Specification for S355N

Grade S355N
European standard steel 1.0545
Standard EN 10025-3-2004
Hot rolled products of structural steels – Part 3: Technical delivery conditions for normalized/normalized rolled weldable fine grain structural steels
Classification Alloy steel
Performance Weldability
Introductions It is a European standard hot-rolled structural steel product, the same series of other materials such as S355JO, S355K2, S355J2 and so on. Tensile strength (Mpa) : 470-630. Mainly used in large ships, Bridges, power plant equipment, medium and high pressure boilers, high pressure vessels, rolling stock, lifting machinery, mining machinery and other large welded structural parts.

S355N Chemical Element Content (%)
Constituent C Si Mn P ① S ①② Cr Ni Cu ④ Mo N Ti V Nb Al ③
Min 0.9 0.02
Max 0.2 0.5 1.65 0.03 0.025 0.3 0.5 0.55 0.1 0.015 0.05 0.12 0.05
① For long products the P and S content can be 0.005% higher.
② For railway applications a maximum S content of 0.010% may be agreed at the time of enquiry and order.
③ If sufficient other N-binding elements are present the minimum total Al content does not apply.
④ Cu content above 0.40% may cause hot shortness during hot forming.
